In this one-day workshop, participants will start with a wooden cup “blank” — a roughly shaped block of wood ready to be transformed. You will begin by hollowing the inside of the cup before carving and refining the outside, all under John’s expert guidance.

As you carve, you will learn about the tools, techniques, and woodworking traditions behind this practical and beautiful object.

Sometimes called a canoe cup, noggin, or kuksa in Scandinavia, these handcrafted wooden vessels were traditionally carried on a belt, making it easy to scoop a refreshing drink from a lake or river while paddling in your canoe.
