Begin the day with a custom kayak paddle “blank,” pre-cut to your custom measurements and ready for carving. Under the guidance of an experienced instructor, you will learn to use traditional hand tools such as spokeshaves and block planes, following each step of the carving process from rough shaping to fine smoothing and final sanding.
Once your paddle has been carved and sanded, you will explore different finishing options. Participants will also have the opportunity to personalize their paddle using woodburning tools to add initials or a small decorative design.
By the end of the workshop, you will leave with a beautifully carved Greenland-style kayak paddle made from black cherry wood — a functional piece of craftsmanship that you can be proud of.
