This multi-disciplinary workshop blends woodworking and leatherworking for a truly unique experience. You will begin the day with a hammer and nails, assembling the wooden pieces of your wanigan under the guidance of our skilled instructors. After lunch, try your hand at hand-sewing and leatherworking as you assemble the pieces of your tumpline.
By the end of the day, you will take home a completed wanigan and leather tumpline, ready for your next backcountry canoe trip!
A wanigan is a wooden box carried with a tumpline that can be packed and carried on a canoe trip. Most opt to store their cooking supplies in it, and it will easily hold a grill, pots and pans, cutlery, spices, etc. Our wanigan design has evolved over years of on-trip testing and includes additional features such as a tray for small items, space for your hatchet and grill, a drip edge on the lid to keep things dry, and a tumpline that is made to fit your wanigan perfectly.
